Also, the "Teddy Bear" was named after him & became a famous toy after he refused to kill a cub.Roosevelt once survived an assassination attempt when the bullet fired at him was stopped by a speech he had written; the speech was so long & used so many pieces of paper it slowed the bullet down and prevented him from harm .

Not only was Anna the wife of a president, but also the grandmother of another, Benjamin Harrison. Anna never lived in the White House as 1st lady; She was ill when her husband William was inagurated & before she could finish packing for Washington D.C., her husband had died of pneumonia 1 month into his presidency. Mrs. Harrison became the 1st widow of a president to recieve a pension from the US government when in 1841 President John Tyler signed into law a grant for Anna in the sum of $25,000 .

He was a founding father of NAACP-the largest and oldest civil rights organization in America. Du Bois wrote 17 books, edited four journals and played a key role in reshaping black-white relations in America.
